Class: Secondary 1 H

Grade and Period: B 5/6

Strengths of the Class: This is an honors sec 1 class. 11 males, 12 female, 1 Polynesian, 3 Hispanic 1 African
American, no ELL students.
Unique Needs of the Class: Students work very well in groups and with direct instruction. Like activities and
working together.
Subject: Secondary 1 H
Curriculum Standards: Describe data distributions and compare two or more sets of data (S.ID.1, S.ID.3)
Lesson Topic: Modeling Data Understanding Histograms and Box Plots
Homework (if any) from previous day: No homework
Content Objectives for the Lesson: Use context to describe distribution, compare statistical representations, data
distributions and compare many data sets.
Learning Objectives for Students: SWBAT build a histogram and box plot given data.
Language Objectives for Students: SWBAT these definitions: Frequency, Histogram, Box Plot, Median, Mode,
Mean, Range, Q1, Q3, Minimum, and Maximum.
Starter: Pass out new module and note packet
Class Procedures: Start the class of giving them the new module and homework packet. We will start the class by
going over the new note packet together so they understand it will be graded. Fill out pages 1-3 of guided note
packet. Then we will do a Box and Whisker Plot foldable together as a class. They will then complete the problem
on the back of the foldable individually. Then together as a class we will fill out page 4 of the note packet. Then we
will play a game as a class called Are you Greedy. We will record the data from the game as a class and build a
box and whisker plot. Pass out test last 5 minutes of class.
Class Work (Questions/Activities): Box and Whisker Plot Foldable.
Plans for Assessment: As soon as students finish the foldable they are to complete the problem on the back it, raise
their hand and I will check them off as completing the problem correctly or help them do it.
Homework assigned and due date: Homework Ready Set Go 8.1 and 8.2 Pg. 5-6 and 9-11
Plans for Enrichment (i.e., What is my plan for students who finish early?): Work on homework that is due next day.
Plans for Remediation (i.e., What is my plan for students who need additional support?): Walking around the room
to help. Working with partners for the foldable. Go over answers as a class.
Plans for English Language Learners: N/A
Reflection on your preparation and execution, as well as on student learning and behavior, etc.: I feel this class went
really well. The students were well engaged throughout the entire class and they really enjoyed the game we played.
I think the only thing that I would change is passing out the test earlier so student had a chance to go over it.
