Ada inquiry on how to carry out engineering research from start to end.
This includes ETP,
FYP, MSc & Phd theses and the likes.
1. First, identify the problem. So what's the
problem you are trying to solve? Describe it in detail. This is your PROBLEM STATEMENT 2. Now you know the problem you need to find the solution. So how you are gonna solve the problem? Describe it. This is RESEARCH OBJECTIVES. 3. However, you might want to focus only on certain areas. What are you gonna do? Until what happens? Describe. This is RESEARCH SCOPE. 4. But the project has a certain duration & you are only a human being. You cant do all. Describe ur barriers. This is RESEARCH LIMITATIONS. 5. Then, look into current technology. Was/Is there anyone doing the similar thing you are doing? Describe them. This is LITERATURE REVIEW. 6. Now you know what to do, so you can plan out. Make out a nice planning and designated timeline for your progress. This is GANTT CHART. 7. Moving on. How are you going to conduct your research and test? What is the step-by-step method? Draw out the diagram known as FLOWCHART.
8. Next, describe your method of carrying out
your experiments in detail. What are the scientific methods and standards used. METHODOLOGY. 9. Obtain your data and check if they are okay. Carry out your analyses and prepare your data nicely. Tabulate & graph out. RESULTS. 10. All the graphs, tables and diagrams are ready. You need to interpret them. What do you see? What do they mean? Describe in DISCUSSION 11. So you have discussed in detail and you close all argumental loop-holes. Good job! So what can you conclude? Objectives met? CONCLUSION. 12. For sure you can't come out with everything without referring to anybody. Who did you refer (copy?) from? List them out in REFERENCES 13. Do you feel grateful for anybody or anything that has helped you out throughout your research? Pay gratitude to them in ACKNOWLEDGMENT. 14. People won't have time to read your entire work so you need to summarize. Describe all from steps 1-11 in a short paragraph. ABSTRACT.
15. You might think there could be
improvements or more works to be done in the research. So what are they? Describe them in RECOMMENDATIONS 16. Congratulations. You just did a pretty neat academic document. Time for submission and presentation! Do it well and you'll pass!
