The Details for Bubinga:

The Bubinga is one of the Standard Production Fanned Fret Guitar Models for 2014.
Bubinga is also called African Rosewood. Although its not a true Dalbergia it
exhibits properties closely related to East Indian Rosewood. It has an excellent,
rosewood like tap tone. It is a little heavier than EIR and is a little brighter. If you
favor a crisp tone with powerful bass, you will like Bubinga.
The inter-locking mottled grain pattern sometimes looks like a waterfall. When freshly
cut, Bubinga has a pinkish/mauve tint that, over time, will darken to a deep cinnamon
brown.
The top is Alaska Sitka Spruce with a standard Martin style X bracing pattern. A
matching Bubinga neck is used in place of the standard mahogany to add more
sustain. The Macassar Ebony finger board and bridge give the guitar a nice bite
when tapping.
Depending on your budget, the guitar can be shipped with or without a hard shell
case to save money, if you wish. The case size is a standard Jumbo. A heavy

padded gig bag can also be included. Guitars shipped without a case are double
boxed and packed securely.
If you would like a pickup, I can install a standard under-the-saddle piezzo with a
strap jack at the bottom free of charge. This signal can be sent to an external preamp mixer. If you prefer a high end pickup, that can also be installed. There is no
charge for the install; only the price of the pickup and shipping to the shop.
This is the guitar for the 21st Centurys Next Generation of finger style acoustic
guitarists. If youre playing style includes alternate tunings, taping and harmonics, the
fanned fret guitar is exactly what youre looking for.
This guitar is ideal for alternate tunings. If you favor a dropped tunings like,
DADGAD, the fanned fret will be the ideal complement to this playing style. The
tension of the strings will remain normal for a full bodied tone. If you decide to tune it
to standard Spanish Guitar Tuning (E, A, D, G, B, E) you will pleasantly surprised
how much volume this un-amplified guitar has than most other acoustic guitars.
Older guitarists with "stiff fingers" may appreciate ergonomic design of the slanted
frets matching the natural fan of the hand for greater comfort. The scale is longer,
27 compared to 25.5, giving the bass strings more tension and volume. The high E
and B strings are a little shorter, 25. The shorter length makes the E and B strings
sweeter with better vibrato and bending. You can also use a capo; just slant it to
the angle of the fret.

Additional Information:
So, why the "crooked" frets, bridge and nut?
The concept is not new. Multi-scale instruments, where each string has its own scale
length, can be traced back to the 16th century instruments, Orpharion and Bandora.
The distance between the nut and bridge of the instrument is an important factor in
the voice or tone of the guitar. Take a quick look at an acoustic guitar you already
have and youll notice that the saddle/bridge is not perfectly parallel to the frets. In a
small way, a standard guitar already has a slight fan in the saddle/bridge for proper
intonation. Short scale guitars, with their lower string tension and closer fret spacing
are easier to play, but longer scale lengths provide a richer tone and may sound
more in tune. The effect of a longer scale length gives the bass strings a huge, rich
sound and great sustain when compared to a standard guitar.
Because of the additional energy and volume, fanned fret guitars are ideal for
alternate tunings and tapping technique. Longer scale instruments tend to have a

longer sustain because the higher mass and higher tension of the strings stores
more energy, while the shorter scale instruments can have a faster note attack with
less sustain. The multi-scale, fanned fret guitar offers a good balance between the
treble and bass strings.
Is a fanned fret guitar hard to play? Not at all, it feels very natural! Stretch the fingers
of your hand as far apart as possible and what do you see? A fan! The natural
fanning of the human hand blends naturally with the multi-scale fingerboard. A good
example of how this works is the A chord in first position; when you place three
fingers in a row at the second fret for the A chord, they normally need to be slanted
because of limited space, the curvature of the fingers and position of the wrist. The
fanned fret option automatically slants the fret to the natural position of the fingers
and hand. Try the E chord in first position; and again, notice that the second and
third fingers are slanted. The fanned fret again slants to the natural position of the
human hand making it comfortable to play.
