The world's growing energy demand and dwindling energy resources must necessarily

find sustainable energy resources. Renewable energy has been a most popular topic of
discussion in recent years. At its core, to meet the power demand of the people in Sri
Lanka the electricity is produced by using renewable and non- renewable energy
sources such as hydro, solar, wind and fossil fuels. However, some of the bad habits of
the people are caused to electricity wastage.
On the other hand, there are so many innovative ways have been discovered by the
developers in order to meet the electricity demand of the people such as
photovoltaics (PV) or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP), Honeywell wind
turbine, generate electricity by using the Piezoelectric Material, road transport pressure,
lucid pipe power system and micro combined heat and power (micro-chp).
Considering the time limits eastern province of Sri Lanka is selected to carry out this
research for the purpose to identify the most suitable innovative ways to fulfill the power
needs of the people and provide necessary instruction to decrease the price tag.
Therefore a comprehensive literature review was carried out to gather information
through review the books, journals, reports, presentations, conference proceedings, and
websites in order to achieve the aim.
Besides, semi structured interviews were carried out among the Electrical Engineers
who are working in the Ceylon Electricity Board and have greater experience and
involvement in power generation to identify the feasibility, advantages and
disadvantages of above innovative ways. Also capacity of power generation and the
implementation cost for each innovative way are calculated through the literature review
and semi structured interviews.
As a result of this research, the following results were achieved. The photovoltaics (PV)
or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP), Honeywell wind and road power
generation are the most suitable and economical innovative ways for Eastern province
to fulfilling the power needs of people without any interruption.
