Having in-depth technical competence in a specific engineering discipline [PO2](2)
Ability to utilize a system approach to analyze and evaluate operational performance
[PO1](2)
Ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams[PO9](1)
Objective of Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is for you to visit ANY shopping complex, hospital, place of
assembly, educational establishment, hotel or office with or without manufacturing facilities to
identify the types of active and passive fire protection system installed.
Problem Statement
Determine the rational behind the installation of such equipment and establish whether it is
adequate, excessive or insufficient as per requirement of Local Building By-laws and code of
practice.
Report Writing (Technical writing)
The report to be submitted should be brief, with dates of visit, time period of visit, (to account for
the next 3 weeks of Laboratory assigned hours), direct to the point (use of tables to summarise
findings or digital photos with permission of site engineer concerned) providing the essential
elements for consideration for future design of a similar facility. Marks shall be awarded based on
(see Rubrics for marking) :
Accuracy of Information (5 marks)
Reference to sections of codes and by-laws (5 marks)
