Activity: Tell a story
Source: A. Evans (Longwood University on January 04, 2004)
Equipment needed: Yarn of various colors and scissors
Activity Description:
Cut different piece of colored yarn into varying lengths. Tie the yarn
together end to end, alternating the colors. Roll the yarn into a big ball.
Have the group form a large circle, and have someone go first. As the
person begins the story, theyll pull the yarn out until the first color
ends. When this happens it means that its time tot past the yarn to the
next individual, to which the next individual will start where the first
person ended. This continues until the yarn is completely unraveled.
The last person has to end the story. For more of a variation make up a
rule to follow when the color changes. For example, each time the color changes you
need to change the setting or introduce another character in your story.

Leadership Consideration:
1. This is a great way to enhance the socialization skills of
individuals that may suffer from social anxiety, by way of
passively interacting with different individuals.
2. This is also a great way to improve sensory motor skills.
Individuals that may suffer from arthritis, Muscular dystrophy,
and even M.S. can easily participate in this activity since it does
not require vigorous movement. Also since the yarn contains
numerous colors it can also be very beneficial to those
individuals that suffer from some form of dementia, by triggering
different memories from their childhood or even their adulthood
to tell a story.
