Activity: Marble Titanic

Equipment needed: Marbles of various sizes, a small bowl, a larger bowl (make sure the small
bowl fits inside it and the rim is about 4 or more inches below the larger bowls rim), and water.
Activity Description:
1. Fill the larger bowl 2/3 of the way with water and place the smaller bowl on top of the
water.
2. If doing the activity in teams, organize all of them into 2 or more teams depending on
how many people are in the group. Only make it an individual competition if the group
has less than 6 people.
3. Representatives of each group will play rock, paper, scissors to decide the order. First
place will place one marble into the small bowl and then itll be second places turn and
so on. Repeat until the smaller bowl sinks into the larger bowl. The team that didnt make
the bowl sink is the winner. If more than 1 team is participating, do more rounds until
there is 1 winner left.
Leadership Considerations:
1. If performing this game as a simple demonstration or a test in less than 10 minutes, due to
time constraints, put marbles in the smaller bowl before the round starts in order to make
the round shorter.
2. This game could be played with a variety of groups with disabilities. If the TR specialist
thinks that marbles would be harmful in any way, they could be substituted them with
coins, and theyd have to put a minimum of 5 coins into the bowl.
3. If conducting this activity with people that use wheelchairs, the game can be made into a
tournament with two people facing against each other. Depending on how many people
are in the group, there would be numerous tables each with their own set of marbles and a
large bowl with the water and smaller bowl floating in it. The winners of that round with
compete against each other, and then eventually a winner will be determined.
4. If conducting this activity with a group that has ADHD, the TR specialist can make the
game fast paced, such as, telling them they have to drop it into the bowl as soon they pick
the marble they want and that they must go right after the opposing member drops their
marble into the bowl.
5. Giving out prizes is also good idea, but TR specialist must make sure the clients are not
extrinsically motivated.
