LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENTAL PLAN

Personal Statement: I am a proactive, adaptable, and positive person. I am always open to new challenges and can adapt to any
situation. I can work in various settings whether slow paced or dynamic. My best attribute is my ability to be a balanced individual. I
work hard in my career but still make time for myself. My balanced nature also helps me remain positive in most situations. Even if I
had a bad moment, I can easily control the situation to not affect those around me and to channel my positive energy towards my
surroundings. I also have a sense of humor that can cheer up the person next to me. It means a lot to me when I can make those around
me happy and cheerful. I believe I have strong interpersonal communication skills. Ive been told by many friends and colleagues that
I am very approachable and trustworthy and they can share anything with me. I have worked in various occupational therapy (OT)
settings including adult in-patient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, adult sub-acute and long-term acute facility, pediatric sensory gym,
pediatrics home health and in-patient rehabilitation, and adult day care centers. My interpersonal communication skills, adaptability,
and positivity coupled with my extensive volunteer and fieldwork experiences have helped me extensively in my pursuit to becoming
a strong and competent occupational therapist (OT).
Mission and Vision Statement: My vision as an occupational therapist is to empower not only my patients but the caregivers,
interdisciplinary team members, and others around me. I have a lot of passion for my field and I want others to see why I am so
passionate for it. I see myself pursuing emerging areas of occupational therapy and continue to challenge myself as a healthcare
professional for years to come. My mission is to a competent occupational therapist and a strong and powerful leader in my
profession. To become this, I understand that I must continue to research and utilized best and current evidence-based practices and
advocate for my profession. I want to be an occupational therapist that my patients can trust and my colleagues admire and respect.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENTAL PLAN

Strengths: A particular strength of mine is the ability to inspire others. It means a lot to me when those around me feel empowered
and inspired to be the best they can be. I also possess the mental and physical endurance to withstand much hardship and stress in life.
My resilience is a trait that I cherish the most in myself over the years. Empathy is an additional strength that I find to be quite
important, especially as a future occupational therapist. I have the ability to listen to my patients needs and desires. I try to always
collaborate with my patients to meet their goals as a team. Lastly, my cultural competence allows me to be relatable to many different
populations. I respect my patients, their culture, and personal and medical history. I understand that everyone has walked different
paths in life and whats important is what the end goal is. I am always ready to help my patients attain their pursuits and endeavors.
Growth Needs: I am very patient and that can be just as negative as it can be positive. Sometimes I believe its better to be straight to
the point and state your stance. Sometimes I do have rose glasses on and see the positive in everything. I have to be more realistic in
certain situations. I understand that sometimes it is more important to be honest with oneself and the situation than to assume that
everything will work out perfectly.
Leadership Model and/or Style Selected: I select the authentic leadership style for myself because I consider myself a positive
person who prefers open communication and work style. I genuinely want to build trust and earn enthusiastic support from those I
work with. I believe that skills can be acquired continually as a team. I understand that one can be direct and empathetic
simultaneously as a strong leader. Through this leadership style, I hope to empower and inspire those around me and to grow both
individually and as a team.
