ZEVENBERGSCHEN HOEK, NETHERLANDS, May 10, 1940. On the
opening day of the German campaign in the West, II. Bataillon of
Fallschirmjäger Regiment 1, commanded by Hauptmann Fritz Prager, had
landed at Moerdijk and seized the railroad and road bridges spanning the
Hollands Diep estuary. The Dutch 6th Border Infantry Battalion, consisting of
approximately 700 men, was ordered to counter-attack the paratroopers before
they could be reinforced by German forces attacking across the border.

AFTERMATH: The 2nd Company of the Dutch battalion led the attack

continued in Zeeland through May 17.
