Dihybrid Cross Problems 2011-2012

Directions: Complete the following on a separate piece of paper. Follow this format so your
information can be easily found
A.) List the genotype of each parent described
B.) Use a Punnett square to predict the possible outcomes of a cross between the 2 parents.
C.) List the genotypes and the number of that genotype present in the offspring for each cross
(can write as a ratio).
D.) List the phenotypes and the number of that phenotype present in the offspring for each cross
(can write as a ratio).
Problems:
1.) Cross a heterozygous tall (T) and round (R) seed pea plant with another heterozygous tall,
round seed plant.
2.) Cross a pea plant that is heterozygous for purple (P) flowers and homozygous dominant for
yellow (Y) seeds with a plant that is heterozygous for purple flowers and homozygous recessive
for green seeds.
3.) Cross a plant that is heterozygous for round (R) seeds and homozygous recessive for white (p)
flowers with a plant that is homozygous recessive for wrinkled (r) seeds and heterozygous for
purple (P) flowers.
4.) Cross a plant that is heterozygous tall (T) and homozygous for green (y) seeds with a plant that
is short and is also homozygous for green seeds.
5.) In Labradors, black coat color (B) is dominant over chocolate coat color (b). However, a
second gene determines whether or not pigment will be deposited at all. If a lab receives 2
recessive alleles for this trait (which is symbolized by E or e), it will be yellow. Use this
information to solve the following problem: A black Labrador of genotype Bb Ee is crossed with
a yellow Labrador of genotype Bb ee. What are the expected phenotypes of their offspring and
in what proportion?
6.) A dog breeder has two chocolate labs that he mates every year. Offspring produced from the
matings are recorded: 34 are chocolate and 12 are yellow. What are the genotypes of the 2
chocolate colored parents? Show the cross to prove it.
7.) In mice, black color (B ) is dominant to white (b ). In a different gene, a dominant allele (A )
produces a band of yellow just below the tip of each hair in mice with black fur. This gives a
frosted appearance known as agouti. Expression of the recessive allele (a) results in a solid
coat color. If mice that are heterozygous for both genes are crossed, what will be the expected
phenotypic ratio of their offspring?
