Opening/Framing the Lesson/Introduction/Early Assessment
In the opening of the lesson, as a whole group, I will introduce our lesson
15 min
on the 7 continents and 5 oceans as well as our goal for completing the
lesson.
As a way of pre-assessing my students I would ask them a series of
questions starting with easy ones (What city do we live in?) than move to
more moderate (Who can locate on the map what state we live in?) than
finally the difficult ones(What country are we living in and can you find it
on the map?)
1 hourThe Lesson Structure: (describe your Activities)
1. I would than bring up a new blank, black and white map on the
1:45 min.
Smart Board, so when I click on the continent it will become a
color and the name will appear on the continent. After clicking on
the continent I will have my students repeat it. I will ask the
students as we go along to see if they know the one below us and
so on having them say each continent in unison.
2. I will then present a song to the class from youtube that will
teach them and help them remember the seven continents. We
will listen first and then all sing along the second time

3. We will then begin the group activity that students will work on
in their table groups. Each group will get a map of the world and
will also receive a checklist of places like the countries in the
different continents as well as the equator and bodies of water.
The students will spend 15-20min finding these items. As a class
we will than go over the globe activity and discuss what was easy
to find or more difficult.
4. After our discussion , we will move on to the second smartboard
activity using a map to locate the different bodies of water and
label them each on the map. Each body will be a different shade
of blue to allow identity of each one. Than when we finish with
the oceans the continents will appear and we can review those as
well.
Closing/Assessment
As a post assesment, I will hand out a blank map with the continents on it
and have the students label each continent and bodies of water.

As we wrap up the lesson I will ask a few questions in order to meet the goal of the lesson.(E.X. So class can you tell me why
it is important to learn about the seven continents and oceans? ) This will allow me to evaluate and see the content that the
students understood and to see if the activities were effective.
