A NOTE FROM
THE PRINCIPAL
It is hard to believe that we are already into
November. The students are working hard each day and
continue
to
grow
emotionally,
physically
and
academically. The Hartley Staff continues to develop
and create positive and productive relationships that are
centered on high achievement and student learning.
First and most importantly, thanks to all the
families who helped make our Fall PTO events so
successful. The dance, can drive, and book fair were
supported very well and it was great to see all the
volunteer hours put in to make the events take place.
We are now looking forward to the 3rd annual
Waseca Public Schools Districtwide PTO fundraiser,
The Bluejay Blast. This event will be held on Saturday,
November 22nd, with a silent auction in the morning, and
live auction in the evening. Please mark this event on
your calendar and be there to help support the students
of Hartley Elementary and the rest of the Waseca Public
Schools.
Have a great November, and thanks for all you
do for the students of Hartley Elementary.
-Ben OBrien, Principal

BUNDLE UP!
With winter coming, we emphasize
the importance of dressing for Minnesotas
cold and wet conditions. On all but the
coldest of days, students will spend recess outside on
the playground. Boots, snow pants, caps, and mittens
will ensure their comfort and safety.

KIDS ACADEMY
Kids Academy will begin for students in grades 13 on Monday, November 3rd at Hartley Elementary. It will
run from 3:00-4:20 pm each Monday and Thursday
through April. The kindergarten program will begin in
January. If you have questions regarding the Kids
Academy program, please contact Deb Krause at 8350988.

CONFERENCES
Thank you for attending conferences in
October. We had 95% participation this fall. Thanks for
your commitment to your child! We appreciate the
opportunity to meet with you about your childs school
progress. Our goal is to work together as partners in
your childs education.

FIRE PREVENTION MONTH

October was fire prevention month. As a school
we put a strong focus on teaching students how to
prevent fires and what to do in the event of a fire.
Please make sure you have an escape route
planned and a meeting place. Fire can devastate a family
very quickly. Make sure you and your children know
what to do.
Third Grade Fire Prevention Poster Winners:

Tegan Flatau, Cherilyn Thissen, Hayden Lynch,

Christiaan Koehler, Makenzi Ferch

EMERGENCY INFORMATION
If your home, work or cell phone numbers have
changed since last year, please make sure to notify the
main office of this change. It is very important that we
have current phone numbers in case we need to reach
you for an emergency.

HEALTHY SNACK CART

The Healthy Snack Cart is going great. We are
still collecting donations for students who may not be
able to afford a healthy snack. If youre willing to
donate to the program, send your contribution to the
Hartley office. Thanks for any support in providing
students with a healthy snack cart

WEEKEND TREASURES
For the 3rd straight year, Hartley Elementary has
collaborated with the Neighborhood Service Center to
provide backpacks of food to qualifying Hartley families
every Friday through the program Weekend Treasures.
Backpacks are filled at the Neighborhood Service
Center and distributed by Hartley staff. To learn more
about this program or if you would like to make a
donation please contact Kris Lapides at 835-0983.

WASECA ARTS COUNCIL

The Waseca Arts Council (WAC) is providing
monthly art appreciation opportunities to the classroom.
Through volunteers these monthly visits will teach
students about art and create an appreciation for many
different forms of art.

CAN DRIVE
Thanks to everyone who donated cans or helped
load the cans into the semi. The $2,100 raised from the
can drive goes towards providing transportation for field
trips. Thanks again for all of your efforts!

PTO BOOK FAIR

Thank you for participating in Hartleys book
fair, it was a huge success! We really appreciate all the
hard work that the volunteers put in, we are so
fortunate to host such a special event at our school.
Our total sales from this book fair were $5,584.07
in books and merchandise. Because of your generosity
that gives back to our school a cash profit of $1,396.02!
On top of our cash profit we earned a 5% growth bonus
which equals $279.20 in scholastic dollars to help stock
our library shelves so all Hartley students benefit from
the success of our book fair.
Families from our school were able to shop at
our Scholastic Book Fair to build home libraries.
Research shows when families show an interest in
reading and children have access to a home library of
books, kids read more. And kids who read more are
better readers.
Thank you again for your generosity,
- Hartley PTO Book Fair Committee
