Body
Warm up:
- Explain the warm up to the students
- Students will run around the gym (when teacher says
go) and listen for the teacher to say stop.
- When the teacher says stop, they are to return to the
circle where they were before and sit.
- *This activity will no only be used as a warm up but also
practice for when they are playing a game and the
teacher needs to regain their attention.
Candy Cane Tag:
- This will be our first activity. Explain the rules of the
game to the students.
- Explain that everyone runs around the gym and two
people will be it.
- Whenever someone who is not it gets tagged they are
to form the shape of a candy cane. In order to become
free, another person who is not it has to run underneath
their arms.
Old Grey Cat (used as another back up activity)
- While students are sitting in a circle explain the activity.

All students, except for the one person who is it, will
stand in a circle.
- The student who is it goes in the middle of the circle
and the rest of the students move around the student
(while still in a circle).
- The students in the circle will sing a song We are weak
little birds way up in the tree, youre an old grey cat,
you cant catch me!
- After they sing that they begin to run away from the
student who is it.
- Whoever gets tagged becomes the new old grey cat
etc.
Formative assessment through observation.
- Watch how the students listen to the rules and are
being respectful while the teacher is talking.
- Watch how they participate throughout the activity and
if they are following the rules.
