Materials/Resources:

Matt board view finder

Still Life (previously set up by instructor)
Sketch book
Drawing Pencils (HB, 2B, H)

Prerequisites (Prior Knowledge):

Social: Students should be able to work quietly in a group setting. The still life is
available for all students to use so students should be able to still work efficiently
while interacting with peers.
Cognitive: Students should be able to understand that they are developing 10
different concepts drawn from one large concept (the still life).
Physical: Students should be able to use all materials correctly and safely. Students
should be able to only look and draw the still life. Touching or altering the still life
will not be tolerated.

Emotional: Students should be able to work separately on their own work without
copying or getting offended by others.

Procedures:
Instructor will provide a semi complex still life with many levels and varying
objects.
Students will be given view finders and instructor will provide a
demonstration on how to correctly use the view finders.
Once students have learned how to properly use the view finders, students
will be released to create at least 10 thumbnail sketches, each of a different
section within the still life.
Students will conference with the instructor and pick the top three to further
develop.
Students will then further develop thumbnail sketches on to 4x6 pieces of
drawing paper.
Once thumbnail sketches are fully developed, students will store in portfolio
to later matt for presentation.
Accommodations:
For students who miss the demonstration, the instructor will provide a mini
demonstration. For students who finish early, they will be encouraged to pick
another thumbnail sketch to develop for extra credit or begin creating a full value
drawing of the still life with the media of their choice. Students who may work
slower than intended will be encouraged to work promptly. If needed, slower
working students will be allowed to only create 7 thumbnail sketches. For students
who have a hard time paying attention or struggle with participation, the instructor
will suggest that students create sketches first, then talk. Excessive chatter or
distractions will not be tolerated.
