throughout Asia
Name of Delegate : Paparwarin Auey Sangpradab
Issue : Combating ISIS and handling its spread throughout Asia
Country Assigned : Turkmenistan
1. What is the current status of the issue in your country?
At present, the news about the terrorist group in Iraq and Syria is frightening other
countries a lot. The Islamic State, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria
(ISIS) or Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is an Islamic extremist rebel group
controlling territory in Iraq and Syria. ISIS aims to create an Islam state that has
caliphate government over Sunni areas of Iraq and Syria. Over hundreds of square miles
were controlled currently by the group. The group ignores international borders.
Currently its controlled area spreads from Syria's Mediterranean coast to south of
Baghdad. It uses Sharia law.
On March 10, 2015, CNN reported the fact about violence of ISIS. During March 4,
2015, ISIS released images of a man being thrown off a building in Raqqa, Syria. This is
one in at least half a dozen cases in which ISIS has killed a man for allegedly being
homosexual. One day later, Iraq's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announces that
ISIS has razed the ancient city of Nimrud by bulldozing the site.
Turkmenistan is an antagonist country of ISIS. According to a report in CNS News, 700
Turkmen including women, children, and elderly people were slaughtered in July, 2014.
Roughly 4% of Iraqs population are the turkmen ethnic group. The turkmen are directly
targeted by Islamic state Sunni extremists owning to member of the Shia Muslim sect.
Religious and minority group in Iraq and Syria were persecution. Among these people
are Assyrian Christians, Turkmen Shia, Shabak Shia, Yazidis, Kaka'i and Sabean
Mandeans, who have lived together for centuries in Nineveh province, large parts of
which are now under ISIL's control.
On March 5, 2015, Joshua Kucera, reporter of Eurasianet, wrote that Turkmenistan
Mobilizes Military Against ISIS Threat. Turkmenistan is undertaking the first large-scale
mobilization of its reserve military forces since gaining independence, which government
officials say is required to ward off the threat of ISIS forces gathering in neighbouring
Afghanistan.

2. What is your country's stand on the issue?
The fact that Turkmen both who live in Iraq and Syria were slaughtered and undercontrolled by ISIS makes Turkmenistan being an ISIS opposition country. The news
reported that Turkmenistan is preparing for mobilizing military against treat of ISIS. This
violence will be interminable if both side dont stop. There is need to handle this problem
and bring peaceful back to Asia. This can be achieved through asking for alliance army
from US and help from neighbour country like Afghanistan to fight back.
This large scale military mobilization will be undertaken for gaining independence.
3. Explain the reason for the stand.
