Project Five: Transformation Character Design Model Sheet

Due Date: Friday, 1/23 (make-up day) Receive assignment
Monday, 1/26 informal presentation of concept.
Wednesday, 1/28 Final transformation model sheet.
Introduction:
We are imagining that we have been hired to create a character
model sheet that features the transformation of a character from one
stage of being to another. It is needed for an episode of the animated
show in which the character goes through a transformation (via magic,
scientific serum, dream, etc.) We will begin with a known animated
character and draw it on model and then create the gradual
transformation of that character.

Instructions:
Using a character from an animated program or film, create a
four stage transformation into a new unique character. Show each
stage of the transformation.
Each stage of the transformation must feature a visually
appealing version of the character.
The final stage of the transformation will be a wildly different
character from where you started however it must maintain some
recognizable feature or bit of costume.
Character must change appearance, size, color, personality,
silhouette, line of action.
Project Goals:
Incorporate the silhouette during the character design process to
establish a strong iconic figure that is immediately recognizable.
Taking a strong initial character design and putting it into motion;
breathing life into it through a strong sense of drama, movement,
and storytelling.
Crisp drawing suitable for a professional character presentation.

Developing, in addition to your drawing ability, you ability to

creatively solve a problem and expand upon an existing idea in a
clever and fresh way.
Developing your ability to work with existing characters, draw
them on model and draw within a house style.
A character cleanly and professionally presented for your
portfolio.
Grading Criteria
In terms of grading, I will be evaluating the level of completion
the package has achieved, the believability of the character, the
confidence of the stylization, the strength of the figures
silhouette, the level of innovation the sheet exhibits.
Format Requirements:
While you may work larger during the art making process,
everything must be scaled down to fit one final model sheet, to
be presented at 11x8.5 horizontal.
Presented in color.
Notes:
Have some fun and develop a story for yourself. Imagine an
episode where this character transformation has been written in.
