Storage media is required (a flash/thumb drive is recommended) by the second class meeting YOU
NEED TO SAVE YOUR FILES FREQUENTLY AND HAVE A BACKUP PLAN (store on your home PC,
email to yourself, cloud, or second USB drive). A binder or notebook is strongly recommended for taking
notes and organizing handouts. A one-foot ruler with imperial and metric scales is useful for measuring
initial drawing dimensions.

button, and then follow instructions for creating and accessing your account.

Prerequisite:

None. Notify the instructor if you need assistance with basic computer operations.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Waivers: Contact the instructor during the first week of the semester if you wish to discuss obtaining a waiver for CDM103
(as a prerequisite for other classes). A waiver may be granted depending upon student CAD experience and preferences
which may allow immediate enrollment in more advanced classes. Immediate enrollment (does not provide prerequisite
credit, however) in more advanced CAD classes can be accommodated if the student has interest and CAD experience (e.g.
from work, other schools, or personal use). Also, we have a number of articulation agreements with area high schools CAD
coursework may already be transferable for college credit see instructor for details.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Course Description: This course will provide 2 credit hours. This is an introductory course in CAD applications with a PC
Windows workstation. This class covers basic sections of 1.) setup and basic program components, 2.) two dimensional
drawings, 3.) orthographic multiview drawings, 4.) dimensioning, and 5.) layouts, blocks.
Objectives: Students completing this course will acquire the skill set to:
1. Access AutoCAD software to create, store, retrieve, and edit file drawings.
2. Input and modify basic geometric forms (lines, circles, etc.).

3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

Create orthographic views.

Print out completed drawings.
Create text blocks, title blocks, and design blocks with drawing information.
Provide basic dimensioning on drawings.
Utilize layouts, viewports, paper/model space, lineweights, variable units and scales.

Student Withdrawal from course: A student who so chooses must officially withdraw with the course and notify the
instructor. The last date for withdrawal with a "W" is January 29. The procedure is initiated by the student through the
Registrar's Office.
Administrative Withdrawal (New College Policy): An administrative withdrawal will be available through the last date to drop
for a term and will be allowed under one of the following conditions: 1.) A student misses 50% of the course meetings during the
first 25% of the course may be administratively withdrawn unless documentation and contact with the faculty is provided. 2.) A
student fails to participate in a course during the following timelines: 14 consecutive calendar days in a 16 week course, 10
consecutive calendar days in a 12 week course, or 7 consecutive calendar days in an 8 week course. Students should not
assume they will be withdrawn it remains their responsibility to withdraw from any class they do not plan to attend. Students
who are reported as Never Attending during the 3rd week attendance reporting timeframe will be administratively withdrawn.
The grade of {AW} will be assigned to those courses that have been administratively withdrawn from a students record. A
grade of AW will not count in a students grade point average but will count in their overall completion ratio.
Last day to change from credit to audit or audit to credit: February 23

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Attendance: Consistent attendance is strongly encouraged. Please be considerate (as is the case in professional
workplaces) by being on time for class. Contact the instructor if you anticipate a problem with attendance. Students are
responsible for getting information/understanding of items covered during missed class time (seeing instructor outside of class
during office hours or appointment time is recommended). Students are responsible for delivering assignments in class.
Students are strongly encouraged to use the entire lab time to maximize learning and work ahead on assignments.
Lab time should be utilized to practice and understand lecture items in addition to performing assignment work. The
instructor has the right to require a student to perform an (alternative) assignment(s) in class if it appears that outside-of-class
assistance is excessive.
Attendance is required for tests/exams contact the instructor in advance to discuss an option of a makeup time. In the case
of a rare emergency on test/exam day, you must contact the instructor as soon as possible (i.e. you cannot just wait until the
next class to discuss) and be prepared to submit documentation about your emergency for any consideration. Otherwise,
test/exam scores of zero are given.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Services for students with disabilities: The College has an Office of Accessibility Services that guides, counsels, and
assists students with disabilities. It is located in Room 133 of the Student Center. It is your responsibility to discuss with the
instructor during the first week of class anything needed to help you succeed. If you have special needs, please call Paige
George (636-922-8247) in the Office of Accessibility Services so that your eligibility for services can be determined.
Mental Health/Counseling Service for Students: St. Charles Community College offers the opportunity to address your
concerns with a FREE mental health counselor on campus. SCC has a well-trained professional to help with a wide range of
concerns common to college students including anxiety, eating concerns, alcohol/drug issues, relationship concerns, academic
stress, suicidal thoughts, sexual and LGBT concerns. Our mental health counselor will offer short-term counseling, community
support and referrals. Please contact the mental health counselor, Christy Jackson at 636-922-8571 or cjackson@stchas.edu to
set an appointment. Her office is located in the Administration Building, room 1242. Appointments may also be made by calling
Teresa Drury at 636-922-8536 or tdrury@stchas.edu. Sometimes a student may require care beyond the scope of our counseling
center and in these situations, students will be assisted with establishing care off campus.
Campus Closings: For up-to-date information on closings due to inclement weather or other emergencies, call 636-922-8000,
log on to www.stchas.edu, Twitter, receive a text (if you signed up), or http://www.facebook.com/stchas.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Grading: The final grade will have letter grade categorization of:
A (90-100%)
B (80-89%)
C (70-79%)
D (60-69%)
F (less than 60%)*
Classwork Drawing Assignments 50% of grade (cumulative 250 of 500 points)
2 Tests 25% cumulative (125 of 500 points)
Final exam 25% (125 of 500 points)

In addition, 1.) a grade of C or better is required in CDM-103 to utilize as a prerequisite for other CDM courses (e.g. CDM104) and 2.) *a passing grade in the final exam is also required to achieve a passing grade in the course
Drawing Requirements/Information:
1. All drawings are to be printed hardcopies. Drawings are due by the end of the class period.
2. Students are strongly encouraged to work ahead on assignments and may turn in before the due date (but grading
will not occur until the due date). Students are strongly encouraged to practice new lecture material during class before
doing assignments.
3. Graded assignments will be returned at the beginning of the following class meeting.
4. Late assignments will receive a 25% grade deduction per class.
5. It is allowable to ask specific questions and get appropriate guidance from the instructor during lab time. However,
copying drawings or portions of drawings from other students or people is prohibited (instances will be dealt
with strictly according to school policy). Getting detailed, verbal step-by-step instructions from others is
also considered inappropriate and just another form of copying.

A class agenda will be written on the board at the beginning of every class. Drawings are due by the end of the class period.
