During the past year, I have had the opportunity of working with Lindsay newton as her academic advisor, her field studies supervisor, and student teaching supervisor in the mild/moderate program for the Department of Special Education at the University of Utah.
I have observed Ms. Newton working with elementary and secondary students with disabilities in a mild/moderate setting. She has demonstrated satisfactory skills in all areas of her pre-service teaching assignment. She has the strong ability to plan for her students using explicit instruction that is driven by current data. She is able to target her lessons to meet the needs of individual students within her groups or classes.
Ms. Newton brings a balance between providing consistent routine, and developing a creative, engaging lesson for all of her students. Her consistency is a wonderful compliment to her good sense of humor. Lindsays ability to collect data to conduct ongoing assessment and error analysis is a great tool to help her better inform her instructional decisions. She understands the value of building positive relationships with her students and has excelled at problem solving to meet the needs of her students.
