INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES(S)
After analyzing the primary source of Roosevelts Quarantine Speech, students will be able to write a
paragraph analyzing key points with 100% accuracy.

After learning about the causes of US involvement in World War II, students will work
collaboratively to create a propaganda poster including two bulleted accurate examples of economic
support of the war.

After learning about the effects of World War II on the American people, each student will participate
in a roundtable discussion debating if the internment of Japanese Americans was justified.

mechanisms.
Indicator: This will be evident when students create propaganda posters encouraging United States
financing of the war by rationing, buying bonds, and joining the work force, etc.

MOTIVATION
I will show a YouTube clip of the Disney animated short Der Fuehrers Face which depicts Donald
Ducks nightmare under Nazi rule. The cartoon was made in an effort to sell war bonds and is an
example of American propaganda during World War II. From this, students will be asked to create
their own propaganda poster.

ASSESSMENT
Students will complete the do now activity and give a correct and complete answer to the
question given.
Students will work to create a propaganda poster encouraging United States support of World
War II.
Students will participate in the round-table discussion and debate of whether or not the
internment of Japanese Americans was justified.
Students will be assessed by using the 3-2-1 strategy. The teacher will get feedback on the
lesson in order to assess whether more review on the topic is needed before moving on.
The students will be assessed throughout the unit study of World War II by scaffolding
information learned in previous lessons.
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE
Following the lecture on the effects of World War II on the United States home front, students will
research the Supreme Court Case of Korematsu v. United States and write a brief summary including
background information on the case, the courts decision, and their opinion.
FOLLOW-UP: ACADEMIC INTERVENTION AND ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT
Academic Enrichment: Students can further learn about Korematsu vs. The United States by
researching how future president Bill Clinton addressed the issues of the case.
Academic Intervention: Students will watch a YouTube video titled World War II Part 2 - The
Homefront: Crash Course which gives an overview of the United States home front during World
War II. The video will reinforce ideas such as women in the workforce and Japanese internment.
