The importance of the I Have a Dream, speech by Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
was and still is a significant marking in history to this day and will continue to live on in our
hearts. People will never forget his dream. Most importantly, this vital speech is a learning tool
for human equality. On August 28, 1963 in Washington, D.C. thousands from all over the country
came to see him speak on equality for all people, at that time African Americans for the injustice
and brutality of the law. During this time period the abuse happening to African Americans was
unbelievable, many heartbreaking actions took place such as innocent people being killed,
tormented and beaten just because of the color of their skin. We hold these truths to be self
evident: that all men are created equal I Have a Dream Address at March on Washington was
a very uplifting quote that Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. restated from the Constitution our
founding fathers made together key word all men no matter race, who you are, or where you are
from. The most famous quote Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last! I Have a
Dream Address at March on Washington gave everybody a strong sense of hope that change
would come, afterwards thousands marched for equality.
Observations from society relevance for today since that speech just like he said change
did come overtime. Even though the equality of law for all people isnt quite there yet how it
should be all races today are more respected. Today, African Americans can own homes,
businesses, and even can run for a political office. The year of 2008 the nation had its first black
president Barack Obama making a monumental occurrence in history. It sparked an outpouring
of joy and gratitude towards all the people who had died due to racism and discrimination. The
legal system is still improving day by day adjusting to make justice for all.
