Reflecting On Personal Learning Styles

After taking the Multiple Intelligences survey my two strongest traitsintelligences are interpersonal and naturalist. After carefully reading the definitions of
both I believe they do match my learning styles closely. The text mentions that
interpersonal learners are naturally social, know how to work with different
temperaments and are generally great team players (Silver, Strong, Pareini, 2000). I
agree with these three statements strongly. I love to be around people and enjoy
interacting with many different people, cultures, customs etc. After reflecting I have
learned that this is a great quality to have especially when teaching at the secondary level.
As a high school teacher I interact closely with over 200 students daily; and having these
traits only helps me better understand my students. As an educator it is necessary to
observe and understand each students unique and individual personality/learning style.
Adequately addressing different student personalities and traits is important for a student
learning experience. Being interpersonal allows students to get an easy read on me, and
in general terms allows them to feel comfortable in telling me what they need or how I
can help them to learn efficiently.
My second MI strength naturalist was my unexpected result because I thought I
would score higher on verbal since my first trait was interpersonal. After reading and
viewing the personal traits of being a naturalist I better understand why I am a good
match. The text mentions that naturalist love to look and analyze patterns of naturally
evolving things (Silver et al., 2000). I feel that this is a strong trait because I really do
love to be out in the wild, appreciating everything the Lord has given us. But I think my
naturalist ways really shine when I think of how perfect God has made humans.

Lastly, I would like to admire how rewarding a reflective activity of this sort is.
Many times students have ideas of what they like to do to learn, but taking an multiple
intelligence exam helps create transparency.
