The Ideal – James Fenton

This is where I came from.

I passed this way.
This should not be shameful
Or hard to say.

A self is a self.
It is not a screen.
A person should respect
What it he has been.

This is my past
Which I shall not discard.
This is the ideal.
This is hard.

With the poem above in mind, create a non-figurative self-portrait--ie. Without using
traditional pictorial methods like drawing, painting or photographing the face and
body. Use the methods (which can include drawing painting, scultpure, video,
perfomance, or audio ) and the materials that will best depict and represent
represent you to the class.

If your portrait is performative or otherwise time-based please aim for under 4

minutes running time. Also performace and timebased projects please come
prepared or ask a classmate to document the piece with video.still cameras.
