What is a Abuse ? cruel unconscionable acts and or


statements or threats made to a child that has a direct effect on
the child. This abuse can lead up to a child substantial
impairment of the child's psychological, cognitive, emotional
and / or social well-being and functioning. This can be an effect
to the person in charge of there care. Emotional abuse or
maltreatment may result from: repeated negative acts or
statements directed at the child exposure to repeated violent,
brutal, or intimidating acts or statements among members of the
household cruel or unusual actions used in the attempt to gain
submission, enforce maximum control, or to modify the child's
behavior rejection of thechild.
In 2012, U.S. state and local child protective
services (CPS) received an estimated 3.4 million
referrals of children being abused or neglected.1
- CPS estimated that 686,000 children (9.2 per
1,000) were victims of maltreatment.* - Of the child
victims, 78% were victims of neglect; 18% of
physical abuse; 9% of sexual abuse; and 11% were
victims of other types of maltreatment, including
emotional and threatened abuse, parent?s
drug/ alcohol abuse, or lack of supervision. +

The 4 major types of CM are physical abuse, sexual


abuse, psychological abuse, and neglect (Leeb et al.,
2007). In f iscal year 2008, US state and local child
protective services (CPS) received 3.3 million reports
of children being abused or neglected and an
estimated 772,000 children were classif ied by CPS
authorities as being maltreat ed (USDHHS, 2010).
