Rules
1. No electronic devices of any kind may be used during any test or oral round.
2. There may be more than one acceptable answer for some questions. Only provide one
answer per question, unless otherwise specified.
3. Spelling is not graded, but illegible answers will receive no credit.
4. All questions are worth 1 point. No partial credit awarded.
5. All questions in the Written Test and Final Round are drawn directly from Brain Facts,
2012 Edition.
6. Anatomy and Histology Test scores are NOT counted toward contestants scores
EXCEPT in the event of a tie (see rules 7 and 8).
7. The contestants with the top 5 scores on written test move on to the Final Round.
a. No more than 5 contestants may move on to the Final Round. In the event of ties,
Anatomy & Histology Test scores will be considered.
8. Per the rules of the International Brain Bee Championship, each local chapter may only
send one winner per year to the corresponding National Brain Bee. If more than one

contestant remains after all final round questions have been exhausted, the following
methods will be used to resolve a tie.
a. Fewest incorrect answers in Final Round
b. Special Tiebreaker Oral Q&A Round.
c. Fewest incorrect answers in Final Round and Tiebreaker Round (cumulative)
d. Highest Written Test score
e. Highest Anatomy & Histology Test score
f. Coin flip

The Stanford Brain Bee is a local chapter of the International Brain Bee, and is sponsored by Stanford
Universitys Office of Science Outreach and the Stanford Neurosciences Institute. The International Brain
Bee was founded by Dr. Norbert Myslinski and is a program of MIND, Inc. (Mankind for International
Neuroscience Development, Inc.). The Stanford Brain Bee was initiated by Stanford undergraduate
Thanh-Liem Huynh-Tran.
