Reading/Language Arts
1st Grade
Monday, November 3, 2014 This lesson is designed for 8
students. It will take about 30 minutes.
CC.1.1.1.D: Know and apply grade level phonics and
word analysis skills in decoding words.
CC.1.5.1.A: Participate in collaborative conversations
with peers and adults in small and larger groups.

Formal Evaluation
The students will take a short matching quiz on
antonyms at the end of the lesson. I will evaluate the
students mastery of antonyms from this lesson by
analyzing the results from the short matching quiz.
Informal Evaluation
During the beginning class discussion, I will ask the
students to define the word antonym correctly. If the
students are having a hard time saying the definition of
an antonym, I will help them define the word. (Q & A)
During the antonym matching game, I will make sure
the students are on task and trying to find the matching
antonym to their word card. If the students are having
trouble, I will help the students find their classmate who
has their matching antonym word card. Students also
have to write down their antonym matching pairs on
their worksheets. I will observe the students antonym
pairs on their worksheets.

Adaptations/Accommodations for Students with Special Needs
For a student who functions at a lower level of reading
(kindergarten level), I will stand in close proximity to the
student so I can help him. During the matching game, I
will guide the student with hints to find a classmate who
has a matching antonym to his word card. His cards will
also have pictures on them to guide his meaning of the
words. Overall, I will make sure I provide more one-onone instruction with the student.
