McCoy Evaluation Plan 3

INTRODUCTION & BACKGROUND

The Curriculum & Strategies for the Gifted course is one of many course requirements for
current teachers to obtain a Talented and Gifted endorsement on their teaching certification
from Fulton County School System. During this course, the instructor models seven
instructional strategies for teaching the gifted. After participating in each model lesson,
candidates will:

Write an original lesson for each of the modeled strategies.

Submit the lesson plan and all handouts to the instructor in Edivation for evaluation.

Select a mini-strategy from the reading and create a podcast or a one-page handout
summarizing the strategy and providing any helpful hints to someone trying it for the
first time.

Currently, the course is taught in a traditional classroom setting with portions of the content
available online; however, this plan addresses the course as though it is taught completely
online. Throughout the evaluation plan, the purpose and limitations of the plan will be
discussed; the audience, decisions, and questions will be identified; and the strategies used
to develop the evaluation will be outlined. The staff within the department of advanced
studies for Fulton County School system will conduct the evaluation.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this evaluation plan is to assess the effectiveness of the course platform,
course delivery, and use of instructional materials in an effort to address the pre-established

performance objectives. The data obtained from this evaluation will be used to maintain or
revise the current course.

LIMITATIONS
Minimal limitations to the interpretation and generalizability of the evaluation exist. The
learners within the course are educators who are required to complete all course assessments
and meet the performance objectives before credit is given. The potential threats to
reliability and validity are as follows:

Participants withdrawing from the course prior to course completion resulting in a

reduced sample size.

Participant responses may be less than honest.

AUDIENCE
The evaluation will be directed towards current certified educators within the Fulton
County School System who are enrolled in the Talented and Gifted endorsement program.
The evaluation will be available to all participants in this course and all instructors involved
in delivery of course material.

QUESTIONS & DECISIONS

The evaluation will address the following key questions:
Focus Area

Questions

McCoy Evaluation Plan 5

Course Platform

1. Is a web-based course format an

effective method to mastering the
performance objectives?
2. Was technical assistance offered when
needed to prevent any gaps in
instruction?
3. Did the web-based format hinder the
learning process?
4. Did the course format allow for
collaboration and communication
amongst participants?

Course Delivery

1. Was the delivery of instruction

conducive to learning?
2. Did the use of media contribute to
learner engagement?
3. Did the use of media contribute to the
mastery of course objectives?

Instructional Materials

1. Are the instructional materials relevant

to the course objectives?
2. Do the instructional materials enhance
the learner experience?
3. Are the materials transferrable to the
learners working environment?

The evaluation will be implemented at the end of the 10-week course. The results of the
evaluation will be shared with the department of advanced studies for Fulton County
School systems of which all instructors are members.

METHODS
The participants will complete the 10-week Curriculum & Strategies course. Within one
week after the end of the course, the participants will complete an online questionnaire to
collect data regarding the effectiveness of the course format, delivery method of instruction,

and materials used. Participants are required to complete the questionnaire in order for their
course grade to be reflected on the program transcript.

The questionnaire will be developed using Google forms. A link to the questionnaire will be
made available on the courses Edivation (formerly PD360) page. Edivation is a course
management system used by the advanced studies department in Fulton County School
system. Providing the questionnaire online will help to collect data quicker and more
accurately.

SAMPLE
Certified teachers enrolled in the course will complete the evaluation. The teachers will be
employees of Fulton County School system and current classroom teachers in either
elementary, middle, or high schools. The number of actual participants may vary based on
final enrollment totals by the end of the 10-week course.

INSTRUMENTATION
An online questionnaire using a variation of the Likert-scale and short answer questions will
be used for the evaluation plan.
