My interest in education is motivated by my belief with the right tools and support every
student can reach high levels of achievement and discover academic success. My previous work
experience and my professional training at OISE in the two-year Master of Teaching program
makes me the ideal candidate to contribute to equipping students with the tools they need to
become responsible and engaged members of society.
My work over the past three years teaching grades five, six and seven at the Danforth
Jewish Circle School has refined my ability to organize and implement educational programming
with input from the school Principal and the parent community. In this role I am constantly
reassessing and accommodating the classroom methods and educational focus to include all
students and ensure their engagement and success. In the classroom I use a variety of techniques
to engage the students such as mixed media visual arts, drama techniques, music, and guest
speakers.
In my role as Summer Camp Director I managed a staff of over 40 members along with
the camp budgets and educational programming. In this role I liaised with the Programs Manager
on how best to teach campers about current events, critical thinking, and Jewish history in an
outdoor learning environment. During my time working as a Principal and teacher with Kesher
School I prepared and implemented programming while overseeing all classrooms and staff. It is
through these experiences I am now an organized and big picture type of educator. I have seen
first-hand the benefits of team planning and long-term educational goals.
My Masters thesis focuses on what types of strategies and techniques teachers can use to
engage street-involved youth. This research alongside my experience in diverse work
environments has enabled my development as a compassionate, attentive and adaptable educator.
In addition, accessible education is important to me as the student population is always shifting
and growing. As an educator I aim to take all different student needs into account and deliver
programming which is engaging, empowering, and challenging.
