Narrative Description of Specific Task


Prepare and complete part of the program evaluation for the AdvancED School Improvement Plan. This
report is necessary for our school improvement plan and school wide accreditation. This will include the
entire section of program evaluation submitted for accreditation. The report will include student, parent,
and staff surveys as well as data analysis of the program.

Description and Analysis of the Administrative Activities


Garner Elementary is accredited under the AdvancED school improvement umbrella. Through
the process of accreditation it is now required that schools submit a yearly program evaluation.
This competency focused on the program evaluation of this accreditation requirement. A
program evaluation was completed for our district adopted math curriculum, Math in Focus.
Through this process, staff surveys, research, and analysis with staff members were conducted in
order to gauge a picture of the strength of the adopted program. This is a requirement of each
building administrator within my district and this report was completed for the purpose of our
school accreditation.
Reflection on Lessons Learned
Before completing this competency I knew that there was a lot of dollars associated with school
improvement and accreditation. I did not recognize the importance of accreditation and the
dollars that followed a passing school. I also learned why our school district implemented the
new math curriculum. Math in Focus was implemented across the board K-4 in the same year.
Many teachers wanted to scale the roll out each school year due to the fact that the instruction
and learning of this program was so different. After speaking with administrators across the
district Math in Focus was implemented k-4 so that all teachers could attend professional
development together. The district understood that this would be a learning process and they
might face a bit of resistance from staff members due to the fact that Math in Focus is such a
different curriculum. Looking at curriculum and evaluating based on the AdvanED accreditation
report was very valuable. It afforded me the opportunity to complete reports that will be
essential when I am the administrator leading a building.
