Provide students with printed overview of unit
Go through verbally, ask if there are any questions
Ask students: who likes/doesnt mind reading out loud in
class; who absolutely hates it. Take down names for both
Reading Strategy: Sketch-to-Stretch
Introduce strategy
Model: print out a very short story (ie, Three Little Pigs)
and demonstrate sketch-to-stretch on the whiteboard
Keeps you paying attention to the story, lets you think

Reading: Introducing Norbert


Introduce story, show the novel The Nose From Jupiter;
ask if anyone has read it before
Ask students to do the sketch-to-stretch strategy while I
read this story out loud.
Ask to take good care of their copied stories, not to lose
them. Well be doing activities in 2 weeks that you will
need these for, so please keep them in your binder and
PUT YOUR NAME ON IT
Have two students ([names retracted] and someone
near the door) hand out the stories.
10 minutes til the end: students label drawings, share in
partners
