Choral Studies Course Descriptions

1- GOLDEN PRIDE CHORUS: This class is perfect for anyone who thinks they like to sing and would like
to try being a part of the choral department here at LHS without a large time or money
commitment. This is also a perfect class for any student who likes to sing but may not be
comfortable doing much dancing/moving onstage.
o Experience needed: None
o Entry Audition required: No
o Costume purchase required: No
o All-County/All-State Auditions: No
o Dancing/Movement required: Minimal
o Concerts/Performances: Optional
o Prerequisite: NONE
Please note: students enrolled in Golden Pride Chorus who choose to perform MUST purchase the
appropriate costume.
2- LORIS LION SINGERS: (formerly Concert Choir) This class will be primarily for students in grades 912 (male and female) who audition and are selected. This is also a great class for choral students
who move here from another place (with choral experience) or who missed the audition process for
some reason.
o Experience needed: At least one year in middle school
o Entry Audition required: Yes. Only students who have completed the audition process may
be placed here.
o Costume purchase required: Tuxedoes for guys and black formal dresses and shoes for
women, T-shirt purchase required every year
o All-County/All-State Auditions: Voluntary
o Dancing/Movement required: Yes
o Concerts/Performances: Mandatory
o Prerequisite: Audition and/or at least one semester in Golden Pride Chorus at LHS or the
equivalent at another school.
3- BLUE PRIDE VOICES: (formerly Advanced Ensemble) This class is for very advanced singers who can
sight-read (male and female) in grades 10-12.
o Experience needed: At least one year in high school, or equivalent private study
o Entry Audition required: Yes. Students MUST complete the entire audition process. Only
students who have auditioned may be placed in this class.
o Costume purchase required: Show Choir dress, dance tights, dance shorts, tan character
shoes, black formal dress, and black character shoes for women, tuxedos, shoes, dance shirt
and tie for men, T-shirt purchase required every year
o All-County/All-State Auditions: Mandatory
o Dancing/Movement required: Yes
o Concerts/Performances: Mandatory
o Prerequisite: At least one full year of Concert Choir or Mixed Chorus at LHS, the equivalent
private study, or equivalent at another school, and the complete audition process.
Please note: Although 9th graders are not typically allowed in this group, in special situations,
Mrs. Whittington reserves the right to fill vacancies in specific voice parts with students from
any grade, provided they fulfill the audition requirement.
