Objective:

Students will be able to identify the meaning of math vocabulary terms related to
place value and will be able to produce a picture or example to accompany each
term.

Math vocab recording sheets
Math vocab definition sheets
What is place value?
What do you know about place value?
Why do you think it is important to learn about place value?
Record student responses

Review/Teach vocabulary words


Say the word, practice writing the word on your white board
Discuss each word/phrase, its definition, how we use it, when they
might encounter it, etc.

Discuss examples of each word
Have students keep their word list on their white board
Present a brief example/picture for the first word/phrase
Go through the list and ask students to come up with examples of each
word
Have students record their examples next to the word on their
whiteboard
Ask students to keep their whiteboard for the next activity. They can
use these ideas/examples to help them complete the math vocab sheet
Present the math vocabulary cut and sort sheet
Have students read the words on the vocabulary sheet
Give students the definitions sheet
Have students cut out the definitions and match to the correct words
Students will glue the definitions next to the correct word and will
record a picture/example to represent that word
Review/discuss
Ask students to read their word list
Ask students to identify a word that they didnt know before and have
them describe the definition and example in their own words
Math vocab sheet

Students using AAC

students enough time
