National Bamboo Mission

* With a view of the harness the potential of bamboo crop in the country, the
Department of Agriculture & Co-operation (DAC), Ministry of Agriculture is
implementing to a centrally sponsored scheme called National Bamboo Mission in 27
State in the country.
* The Scheme has been approved for the period 2006-07 to 2010-11.
* This mission would bring about one lakh hectares under bamboo which is expected to
generate income and employment opportunity through bamboo and its ancillary
industry.
* The scheme envisages harnessing the bamboo wealth in the country by integrating the
production, post felling management, value addition and marketing aspects.
* The scheme is being implemented through State Bamboo Development Agencies,
which have been constituted by the States.

New National Agriculture Policy


Union government has announced new National Agriculture Policy in the
Parliament on July 28, 2000. The policy has been planned under the provision
of World Trade Organisation so as to face the challenges of Agriculture sector.
This policy gives emphasis on promoting agricultural exports after fulfilling
domestic demand.
The salient features of this policy are:
* 4% agriculture growth per annum for the next two decades.
* Land reforms to provide land to poor farmers.
* Consolidation of holdings in all states of the nation.
* Promoting private investments in agriculture.
* To provide insurance umbrella for crops to farmers.
* To promote biotechnology.
* Promoting research for developing new varieties and ensuring protection
to the developed countries.
New Agriculture Policy has been has been described as Rainbow revolution
which includes the following revolutions:
* Green Food Grain Production
* White Milk
* Yellow Oil seeds
* Blue Fisheries
* Red Meat / Tomato
* Golden Fruits / Apples
* Grey Fertiliser
* Black/Brown Non conventional energy source
* Silver Eggs
* Round Potato

The above Rainbow Revolution also includes Food Chain Revolution to put
a check on destroying foodgrains, vegetables and fruits.
