Rationale: This unit is important because SWBAT to enhance their literacy skills and vocabulary while learning the four seasons. Through their
experiences, students will also be able to express their thoughts, feeling and opinion by doing meaningful activities with spring, summer, fall and
winter.
Overview and Concept Map: This unit is divided in eight lessons exploring the four season using a variety of MI and LS.
Prescribed Learning Outcomes: GCO 1: students will speak and listen to explore, extend, clarify, and reflect on their thoughts, ideas, feelings, and
experiences.
SCO: 1) express thoughts and feelings and describe experiences
2) ask and respond to questions to clarify information or gather further information
3) express opinions and give simple explanations for some of their opinions
4) listen to others ideas and opinions
Prerequisite Concepts and Skills: students must have successfully completed the grade 1 level
Teacher Preparation Required:
1) Have music/video ready
2) Make sure there is enough space for drafting
3) Prepare all material including art supplies, posters, markers, etc.
4) Prepare word wall with picture
5) Prepare class layout so student are engaged
6) Make arrangements (bus and parents letter) for field trip
7) Prepare formative and summative assessment for unit
Cross-Curricular Connections: This unit will be transferable to Science, Social studies, and French.
Balanced Literacy: Here are the main components used in this unit; Oral language, Read Aloud, Shared Writing and Word Work.

Extensions to Unit: Upon completion of this unit, students will learn more vocabulary and use similar components of BL for various authors during
the semester.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Differentiated Instruction (DI):
Representation: The use of large colorful images and words for the word list will help the perception level of all students. The teacher will model
the students by using a clear voice tone when reading aloud. Students will learn vocabulary words that connect to their life experiences and prior
knowledge. The teacher is to clarify or define new or unclear vocabulary words in each of the books read with the help of the students. The teacher
will keep students engaged by providing multiple examples to explain critical features. The use of scaffolding with MI will allow students to enhance
their comprehension.
Action and expression:
The teacher will provide a wide range of activities allowing students to work with material using their hands and voice. The use of multimedia will
provide options for expressive skills and fluency. The teacher allows student to reach the outcomes by using different approaches. The teacher will
provide differentiated feedback to every individual to maximize learning. The teacher will model for students to enhance their reading skills. The
teacher also provides guided questions for students to self-monitor knowledge gain.
Engagement:
In this unit, the teacher varies the learning activities so the outcomes are purposeful for the student. The teacher will also provide tasks that will allow
students to actively participate, explore, and experiment. We will provide feedback that encourages, emphasizes effort, and informs the students on a
frequent and ongoing basis. The teacher utilize cooperative learning groups with scaffolded roles and responsabilities.
