Hello,

The purpose of this letter is to provide my highest recommendation for Lindsey Lash for
the position of Middle School Life Skills Support Teacher. My name is Dr. Richard King and I
am currently an Adjunct Instructor and Student Teaching Supervisor for Seton Hill University. I
formerly served as a Special Education Teacher and Elementary Principal. At this time I am
serving as Lindseys Student Teaching Supervisor, which has given me the opportunity to
observe her in two classroom settings, one of which was a Middle School Life Skills Class. This
class has provided Lindsey with the opportunity to respond to a variety of learning and
behavioral challenges within the context of a curriculum that not only pursued goals in
traditional academic areas but also fostered growth in practical life skills and self-care skills. I
have been pleased to see that Lindseys response to these challenges reflected a high level of
professional skills and the personal compassion and commitment that enabled her to develop into
outstanding Life Skills Teacher.
Among a number of plans she has developed and implemented in her Student Teaching
placement is a positive behavior intervention and support plan that combines the need to
encourage positive classroom behavior and the need to understand how personal finance works.
Students earned wages through their efforts to act in a positive, responsible manner, according
to classroom rules and then learned how to write out checks related to the accounts they are
growing. Her other learning activities reflect an understanding of the assessed needs and
strengths of her very diverse classroom community and her ability to respond to students
reactions to her lesson and to each other. Most notable to me as I have observed Lindsey is her
talent to conduct this class in an enthusiastic and supportive manner, which fosters excitement
and energy among her students, even for such everyday activities as washing hands and brushing
teeth, as well as the traditional literacy and math skills.
It has been a pleasure to have Lindsey as a student in my Classroom Management course,
in which she excelled, and as a student teacher. As a former Principal, I admire her commitment
to her craft and the energy and optimism she brings to her Student Teaching placements. Her
cooperating teachers in both placements have also been enthusiastic in their praise of her skills
and passion for teaching. For these reasons, I can strongly recommend that you hire Lindsey
Lash as the teacher for the Life Skills Support Class, or any other teaching position that may
benefit from a capable and compassionate teacher.
Please feel free to e mail me or call if I can be of any additional assistance.
Sincerely,

Richard W. King, Ph.D.
