What is a hero?
SWBAT determine what a hero is from the dictionary definition as
well as the definitions that they come up with.
SW write a paragraph in which they describe what a hero is to them.

Students will brainstorm their favorite super hero and
come up with a reason for why that is their favorite
superhero.
Students will tell who their favorite superhero is and
why to the whole class.
Students and teacher will discuss what makes a
superhero.

Students will listen as the teacher explains that they will


be working with a partner in writing a paragraph to
define the word hero.
Students will work in partners to write a paragraph in
which they write a definition of a hero to them.
Students will share their paragraphs with the class.

The nature of the superhero argument, kind of made the


atmosphere relaxed and this lead to students being wild.

Teacher Activity
The teacher will have on the board for students to
choose their favorite super hero and come up
with a defense for why that is their favorite
superhero.
The teacher will ask that all students in the class
share their favorite superhero and why with the
whole class.
The teacher will ask questions such as what
qualities does a superhero have? How do those
qualities make them a superhero? What is not a
superhero? If you have to have one quality of
many to be a superhero what is it?
The teacher will explain that students will be
writing at least an eight sentence paragraph in
which they define the word hero. Not superhero,
but hero.
The teacher will assign students to work with a
partner to write a paragraph in which they extend
the definition of hero.
The teacher will have each group of students
share their paragraphs.
