Technology Teaching Philosophy
When you step into a classroom today, you may realize that it looks a bit different than it
would have a few years ago. You may notice a big Smartboard attached to the wall taking place
of what used to be a white board or even a chalk board. You may also notice a projector hanging
from the ceiling taking the place of an old overhead projector. You may also notice that every
single student has their own personal device, such as an IPad or laptop computer. Technology has
evolved and now has entered the classroom. I believe technology use in the classroom can
greatly enhance the curriculum if integrated in a proper way.
In my future classroom, technology will be a routine part of our daily activities.
According to an article titled, Early Education Plays a Role in Bridging the Digital Divide
author Lindsay Daugherty (2014) states that, Integrating technology into early childhood
education means that children may have access to a wider range of opportunities for leaning. I
agree with this, but I also feel that technology must be integrated properly in order to provide
these learning opportunities. According to an article titled, Whats the Difference between
Using Technology and Technology Integration? author Aditi Rao (2013) gives several examples
on what a properly integrated classroom looks like. Technology is used to support curricular
goals and learning objectives, technology is used to encourage higher order thinking skills,
technology usage is planned and purposeful, and technology is essential to the learning activity
(Rao 2013). In my future classroom, I will follow these guidelines in order to create a properly
integrated technology environment.

I will begin each day by using the Smartboard for taking attendance. There a several neat
ways to do this. The website www.teachersnotebook.com gives an example of an apple tree
where students touch the apple, with their name on it, when they arrive in the classroom. This
will be a great way to know who is in attendance for the day. I will also continue the use of the
Smartboard during math time. I will have my students watch videos to preview the lesson and I
will also encourage engagement by having my students come up to the Smartboard to solve
problems.
Not only will the Smartboard be used in your daily routine, but also the IPad. IPads are
equipped with thousands and thousands of educational apps that will enhance the curriculum. I
will use apps like the See-Read-Say app which will help my students learn their sight words.
This app can be used during my small group reading time, during free time, or I can place an
IPad in my reading corner and encourage my students to use the See-Read-Say app. I will also
use the Seesaw: The Learning Journal app, so my students can document and share what they
are learning in the classroom. This app has the benefit of giving parents a glimpse into their
childs day and allows them to become involved in the learning process as well. In addition to
these apps, I will also take advantage of the apps offered for students with disabilities. My Talk
Tools is a great app for students who have problems expressing their needs. Also, the IPad can
connect to the Smartboard to allow interaction for students in a wheelchair or students who are
unable to walk up to a Smartboard.
I believe that it is extremely important to properly use technology in my classroom, but I
also believe it is as equally important to use technology to meet the diverse needs of my students
from different backgrounds. It is obvious that I will have students coming from different
backgrounds, students with different socioeconomic statuses, and also students with a variety of

different academic skill levels, etc., but meeting their needs will be a top priority to me.
According to the article titled, Using Flexible Technology to Meet the Needs of Diverse
Learners: What can Teachers do? authors Lisa Wahl and Julie Duffield (2005) state that having
an updated computer that is connected to the internet, will not only meet the needs of diverse
learners, but will also provide students with the support they need to interact with the curriculum
(2005). Wahl and Duffield go on to mention that text-to-speech on a computer can be used for
students who have difficulty reading and/or just hate to read (2005). I will use text-to-speech in
my future classroom to help give my struggling readers the motivation they need to succeed. I
will also make sure that all of my students have an equal amount of access to technology no
matter what their background or socioeconomic status might be.
Now that technology has entered the classroom, I believe that it has changed the way
students learn for the better. I believe that technology is an exceptional tool to help aide in the
educational process, if integrated properly. If I take the proper steps and follow the right
guidelines, I will be able to successfully integrate technology into my future classroom. I will
also take advantage of the many educational apps that can be used to meet the individual needs
of every student. Technology has become an essential tool in the classroom environment and I
will continue to educate myself on the many different benefits it has to offer.
