We have assigned to do an everyday English project for the school during our
practicum. It is called One Word One Day . This is where we have to introduce to
pupils of SK Bukit Payong a new word, during their daily assembly.
The school has four boards which is prepared for four different languages ;
Malay, English, Arabic, and Jawi. We have to present the word everyday.
After setting up with my practicum mate, Intan Syamimi, we decided to fix on
the language, where I am going to present the English word and Syamimi has to
present the Malay word. One of our college presents the Arabic word.
After setting up our parts, we plan to search the words. We buy the book
Picture Thesaurus to make our task easier. First, we choose the English word ,
then we have to find the meaning of the word. Sometimes, we use synonyms to
make the words easier to be understood by the pupils.
After selecting the words, we make a weekly chart as a preparation and
guidance for us of the whole week. Thus, it makes it easier for us to use as a
documentation when the JPN comes to our school to check the documentations.
We did a lot of collaborations, with both Bahasa Melayu teacher and also
English teacher. We ask for their opinions about our words and sentences level
because we are not that familiar with the levels of the pupils proficiency yet.
In presenting the words, we normally use A4 papers to make it practical to
write everyday and show it to pupils during their assembly. We also learn to project
our voice louder when talking infront of big crowds.
