This assignment fulfills the competency 2.1.

10: Engage, assess, intervene, and

evaluate with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
Through this assignment I was required to discuss the proceedings of our simulated
group therapy sessions, specifically those occurring during the middle and endings
phases of the group. This involved assessing the groups development through
these ending phases, the group dynamics, the plan of action to implement as the
group came to an end, and my thoughts and feelings regarding events that
transpired in the middle and ending phases. This reflection was based on
engagement with group members during sessions. This engagement involved
preparing for the group sessions, implementing empathy when working with group
members, and developing a plan of change including outcomes that were agreed
upon by all individuals. These behaviors fulfill the practice behavior related to
engagement for this competency. Additionally, the practice behavior of assessment
was fulfilled through the assessment of group strengths, limitations, cohesiveness,
and culture. Through the work with this simulated group I was able to gain enough
knowledge to effectively evaluate how well the group worked together and what
strengths the group may possess. Lastly, the practice behavior of intervention was
fulfilled during the proposed plan of change process. During this time, I was able to
reflect on the sessions and help the clients to resolve the problems that has been
discussed throughout the sessions through the proposal of a plan of change. This
assignment on the middle and ending phases of a group allowed me to effectively
fulfill competency 2.1.10 and learn a significant amount regarding how to effectively
work with groups.
