Materials/Resources Needed
Magic Spoon printable worksheet
Plastic spoons with consonants written on them
Instruction/Methods
Each student will be given a Magic Spoon printable worksheet with word
endings (VC) listed
Students will also be given a spoon with a beginning consonant on it
Students will match the spoon up with the word endings and read each CVC
word it makes
We will do the first one as a group, and then individually if students are doing
well
When they are done reading each word, students will get a new spoon with a
different letter on it, and read the CVC words made with that letter
Adaptations for Individual/Diverse Student Needs
Reading group is already differentiated based on reading level. The class is
split into 4 groups: blue, green, orange, and red stars, with blue being the
highest and red being the lowest. The students do not know what the groups
mean, but it is a good way to group students with other students of their skill
level.

Reading group also provides the opportunity for small group and even oneon-one instruction, for students who may need more assistance and attention
in reading

Assessment Procedures
I will informally assess the students as a group while doing the first round
together
I will informally assess individual students as I have them read their CVC
words to me
Extension Activities
At the beginning of reading group, the new popcorn/site words of the week
will be introduced
o The words this week are blue, green and yellow
After the students have played the game for about half of reading group time,
they will take a picture walk through the emergent reader text that we will
be working on in reading group later in the week
o A picture walk consists of students reading the title and looking at the
cover to decide what they think the book will be about. Then, students
attempt to read the book by themselves, and pay attention to any
words that they may not know
