OTHER EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE

7-Eleven, Brighton, Michigan
Manager, Store Clerk
Started working when I was 16 as a cleaner/stock boy. After
I turned sixteen I was able to run the register. Through this
time and when I was eighteen I took the responsibility of
getting trained in the ordering system and started ordering
product for the store. Once eighteen I took on more
responsibilities being a manager which included writing
schedules, approving payroll, being involved in the hiring
process, and counting cash to balance the drawers for the
end of day.

Sushi Zen, Brighton, Michigan

Busser, Cashier, Server, Assistant Manager, Sushi Chef
I started work here as a busser and quickly moved to
cashiering and serving. After a year as a server I was asked
to be an assistant manager. I was unable to continue this
position due to a knee injury. After surgery and my knee
healed I went back to get a job and a position was open at
the sushi bar being a sushi chef. I have held this position
since fall 2014 to the present.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM EXPERIENCES

UGS 2014 Title: Properties of Matter

- Abstract: The focus of this presentation is on a 10-lesson unit to help students
discover how matter transforms between three states: solid, liquid, and gas. The
unit diff erentiates for students of all interests, readiness levels and learning
profi les, and is learner-centered, as well as actively engaging.
UGS 2015 Title: A Free Periodic Table App for Teaching High School Chemistry
- Abstract: The purpose of this project is to create a free periodic table App to be
used by high school chemistry teachers and students, and to develop a tutorial to
train teachers to develop their own customized teaching Apps. Although periodic
table Apps abound, most cost money, are very limited in scope, and may
download spyware onto one's computer. A student/teacher generated App has
enhanced security, is customizable, and like a Wiki, is expandable, allowing
student generated work as an ongoing project, adding for example, history. In this
project, a user merely clicks on the element block to see a screen containing
physical and chemical properties, as well as the electron confi guration.

Title: Identifying and Using Student Preconceptions to Plan High School

Biology Lessons
- Abstract: An eff ective science teacher meets the requirements set by the
curriculum while simultaneously catering to the needs of 140+ students. For this
to be accomplished, one must plan engaging instructional activities that relate
scientifi c information to the everyday lives of the students. The purpose of this
project is to take a learner-centered approach to planning a biology teaching unit
for student teaching. First, high school students' interests and prior knowledge is
identifi ed through pre-assessment activities. This data is then used to plan
instruction that builds upon students understanding about biology topics so they
are able to meet the current state and national science standards.
