Artifact 2 Weekly Lesson Planning

Standard # 10 Leadership and Collaboration. The teacher seeks appropriate
leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to
collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and
community members to ensure learning growth, and to advance the profession.

For standard #10, leadership and collaboration I chose to use weekly collaboration
and lesson planning meetings with my CT to create the weekly lesson plans in all
subjects. During my student teaching period I collaborate with my teacher weekly to
create the following weeks lesson plans and schedule.
For mathematics the students use Stepping Stones. There is no hard copy teacher
handbook, so we have to log on to their website in order to find the lessons. It is set up
by modules and then broken down into lessons. The modules consist of approximately
12 lessons. Usually one lesson is for one day and consists of a single concept. We look
at the lesson, take the concept, and then create the lesson for the day. We usually create a
lesson that consists of introducing the concept with a DO-NOW and then have the
students do a hands on lesson.
For reading the students use Wonders. It consists of units and each unit consists
of five weeks. We look at the teacher handbook, which has five-day lesson plans for each
week. We take the important skills that they want the students to master for the week and
then create our daily lesson plans from there. Usually on day one we introduce
vocabulary, the read aloud, and some mini lessons on the skills. On day two we do the
shared reading and finish up the mini lessons. On day three and day four the students
work on 3-5 centers depending on the skills for the week. The centers are based on the
mini lessons that were taught for the week as a way to reinforce the skills. On day five
students complete their weekly test.
Science and social studies lessons differ week to week. Many times we make
connections from Wonders themes to science and social studies lessons. For example, in

the Wonders text they had stories about gravity, so we completed a gravity lesson in
science during that same week.
In conclusion, I believe that I have shown my understanding of leadership and
collaboration. I take on the responsibility of creating lesson plans and collaborating with
my CT as well. There are also times when we debrief after the day and have to
collaborate in order to reteach the lesson to increase students understanding. By this we
are ensuring the growth and understanding of each and every student.
