Summary of Data: (Whole Class)
It is clear based on the data that the students gained a lot of knowledge during this
social studies mini-unit based on the comparisons between the pre- and post-assessments.
All students improved their scores which leads me to believe that this mini-unit was
successful. The girls performed slightly higher than the boys on the assessments;
however, the boys made more improvements from their pre-assessment to the postassessment.
Individuals:
A. It is important for me to analyze data between students who perform well, about average,
and below average because teachers must know this information in order to help them
become better students and be more successful. Analyzing the data between these
students also allows me to plan for future lessons according to these students. It is also
important to analyze data between boys and girls to determine their strengths and
weaknesses.
B. Analysis of Three Students:
Quantitative/ Qualitative Data
o Most Successful: The student who was most successful scored 20% (2/10) on the
pre-assessment. She scored 90% on the post-assessment increasing his score 70
points. The one question that she missed on the post-assessment, she had also
missed on the pre-assessment. Based on my observations of this particular
student in class, she rushes through things that she doesnt think will affect her
overall grade in a certain subject. She is very smart, but doesnt seem to apply
herself as much as she could. This means that as the teacher, its my job to give
her more of a purpose for learning.
o Least Successful: The student who was least successful scored 10% on his preassessment and 60% on his post assessment. Although he increased his score fifty
points, he still did not make a passing score on the post assessment. He often
struggles in most subjects, and has actually repeated two grades since hes been in
school. I dont believe he utilizes his time at home to study, which means that as
his teacher, I need to encourage him to utilize any free time at school to study.
o Average: The student who performed about average scored 60% on the preassessment and 100% on the post assessment. He increased his score by 40
points. He is one of the smartest students in the class; although, he still needs
teacher assistance during most subject. His grades dont necessarily prove his
intelligence, but that is because he rushes through his classwork, quizzes, and
tests. He loves to read, so I think he rushes through his work because he knows
he can read when he is finished with his work.
