Donas, Yolando. "Till we meet again." Faces: People, Places, and Cultures May-June 2010:
12+. Student Resources in Context. Web. 24 Mar. 2015. This article is about how many
South Koreans were still tied to the south in the Korean war and how they risked
everything to get back. Some people even left their families. In 1985 there was a random
lottery in which 100 people were selected to see their loved ones. They traveled to North
Korea and for 4 days they were allowed to spend time with their families which they had
been apart from for 32 years. I am going to use this article to show the cruelty of the
North Korean government because they did let families cross the border to see each other.
"Escaping North Korea: Defiance and Hope in the World's Most Repressive Country."
Publishers Weekly 23 June 2008: 50+. Student Resources in Context. Web. 25 Mar. 2015.
This passage talks about how a man led North Korean refugees through a 6,000 mile
underground passage to China. It uncovers the famine, sexual abuse, torture, and
religious oppression that goes on in North Korea. The author spent 4 years at the border
of North Korea and China building orphanages and shelters. He even aided 4 teenagers
avoid arrest from the government. I will use this passage as an inspirational story of
getting people to safety.

"Lights out." Junior Scholastic/Current Events 23 Feb. 2015: 2+. Global Issues in Context. Web.
23 Mar. 2015. This article expresses how bad the living conditions are in North Korea.
The author uses specific examples like how half the Nation lives in extreme poverty.
Many of the houses rely on a fireplace for their heat. If you compare a satellite photo at
night of North Korea to South Korea there is a major difference. The thing that stands out
the most is the lighting, barely any of North Korea is lit up yet most of South Korea is. In
this project I will use this source by expressing how bad the living conditions are in North
Korea.
Whittaker, Peter. "Escape From Camp 14." New Internationalist May 2012: 42. Global Issues in
Context. Web. 24 Mar. 2015. This article discusses the book written by Blaine Harden,
Escape from Camp 14. It uncovers his miraculous story of how he escaped a North
Korean death camp. It talks about his life, since he was born in a camp all he ever knew
was life inside the walls. He grew up seeing his own mother as a rival for food and didnt
feel any sympathy when she was killed. He does not hold back any of the gruesome
details about the camp. In this project I will use this article as a personal witness of the
horrible death camps in North Korea.
"The worst place on earth; North Korea." The Economist 11 Aug. 2012: 75(US). Global Issues
in Context. Web. 24 Mar. 2015. This article talks about how bad of a ruler Kim Jong Un
is and how little he cares about his people. It mentions how bad of an economic situation
North Korea is in right now. There a hundreds of thousands of people there that are
desperate for food. There are many people in South Korea who cant wait to see their
family members in the north. The best chance for North Koreans to be free is wait for
Korea to be one again.
