Play Proposal

Title:

Social Issue: Child Labor and crime caused by poverty


Human Flaws: Greed and Excessive Pride.our tragic hero will struggle with trying to make
money to take care of his sick mother without becoming a criminal. He wants to be successful
and heal his mother but finds it really hard to do so.
Theme:
Poverty often leads to crime because people need to support themselves.
Too much love towards someone can lead to doing the unbelievable.
Greed or the quest for success can often test ones ethics and lead good
people to do bad things.
Setting: Nigeria, 2008

Plot Outline:
Setting: Nigeria, 2008
Characters:
-Mobo (11 year old factory worker, tragic hero)
-Olisa (Mobos boss)
-Mom (Mom's sick mother)
-Sarima (Mobos childhood friend, also a factory worker)

Main Character conflict:

External: Our main character faces money problems because he is trying to provide for his
family, since his ill mother is unable to.
Internal: Greed, Pride, he is torn between doing the right thing or breaking the law in order to
get money to support his family.

Rising Action
1. Needs more money to take care of his sick mother
2. The only way he can get the extra money is to kill someone but doesn't
know who
3. Mom doesn't like the fact that he has to kill someone.
Climax:
Mobo attempts to solve his problem by doing the job offered to him by Olisa, that will give him
more than enough money to provide for him and his ill mother for a very long time, and enough
money to pay for the medicine and treatment Mom's mom needs. The climax of the story is him
attempting to kill the man.
Falling Action:
Mobo kills the man, looks inside his pockets and finds the man's wallet.He then digs into the
wallet and finds a picture of his best friend, Sarima. Mobo then makes the connection that the
man he murdered was his best friend Samiras brother. Mobo then runs home to his mother
without saying a word. Moby then falls asleep and Sarima sneaks into his room and kills him,
getting revenge for what he did to her brother.

Resolution:
Mobo is dead, and all of his efforts to making the extra money were for nothing.

Outline for Greek Tragedy:


Prologue:
Mobo gets home from working in the factory, to his bed-ridden mother. Him and her have a
conversation about the importance of Mobos job and how he needs to keep it, because they
have no other income.
Parados:
Three factory workers, scattered across the stage and talk about the troubles working in that
type of business for little amount of money.
Scene 1:
Mobo is in the factory sewing on the machine while he is talking to Sarima. While they are
having a conversation, they see Olisa scolding at another worker. Olisa yells at the worker and
slaps her to the ground bringing her to tears. Olisa walks towards Mobo and Sarima after seeing
them talking and then yells at them.
Chorus 1:

The same three workers walk onto stage and recite lines about the abuse that goes on in
factories when the workers do something incorrectly.
Scene 2:
Mobo is invited into Olisas office. Olisa tells Mobo how good hes been doing and offers him a
new job. This new job will give him three times as much money he normally earns. The only
problem is Mobo has to kill someone to get the money he needs to take care of his sick mother.
Chorus 2:
Sarima and two other workers walk onto the stage and begin reciting their lines that are about
how if you're really desperate, it can lead you into making bad decisions.
Scene 3:
Mobo walks into his house and looks at his mom who's laying in bed. He walks over to her and
tells her that he got big news. His momma looks at Mobo and ask to hear them. Mobo walks to
the kitchen and and starts mixing ingredients together while he tells his mother the news. His
mother isn't happy about them. She begins to talk to Mobo about the new job and how
dangerous it is. She says that death for her is inevitable, and that he shouldn't risk his future for
her health. They begin arguing, and the scene ends with Mobo storming off stage.
Chorus 3:
Three workers walk to the middle of the stage and start to talk about the greed Mobo had and
how he should listen to his mother and not let greed take over his mind.
Scene 4:
It is time for Mobo to carry out the plan of killing this unknown man. He starts by walking onto
stage wearing a mask, holding a gun. The man he is supposed to kill is facing away from Mobo,
making it easy to sneak up on him and shoot him. Mobo took that advantage and shot him in the
back. While the man is laying on the floor, Mobo decides to look in the mans wallet for extra
money he could take. When he opens the wallet, he sees a picture of the man and Mobo's best
friend Sarima. This tells Mobo that the man he just murdered was his closest friends brother.
Chorus 4:
Three factory workers are on stage talking about how Mobo is going to pay the price for letting
greed take over him.
Scene 5:
Mobo runs inside his home without awaking his mother. He lays in bed and stays up for awhile
thinking about Sarima, hows he going to tell her tomorrow. After all the thinking and worrying he
was doing, he soon falls asleep and when he does, Sarima sneaks into his room and kills him,
getting revenge for what he did to her brother.
Chorus 5:
Three factory workers talk about how sometimes good intentions turn into bad decisions, and in
this case, it leads to death.
Scene 6:
Mobo is dead, and all of his efforts to making the extra money were for nothing. His mother is
crying and heart broken that her only son is gone and she blames herself for his death.
Everyone including some of the workers he worked with are gathered on stage and is
comforting his mother. His mother walks up to the picture of him and kisses her hand and with
that hand, she places it on the picture. She walks down the aisle leaving the stage and the

workers follow behind her. Olisa and Sarima stay behind and just stare at the picture. Olisa
knows Sarima killed Mobo and tells Sarima he knows but won't tell. They walk off stage together
and thats the end of the scene.
Chorus 6:
The same three workers walk onto stage and talk about how sometimes you need to think of
how the idea or situation may affect others and if it does, is it in a good way or bad way.
