Data elements

What are data elements

A Data element is a unit of data defined for
processing. A example of a data element would be
anything which is a human readable phrase or
sentence which is associated with data. Some
examples of data elements would be name, address,
city and age.

Examples of Data elements and

their importance
An example of a data element is the ip of a computer. A IP address is a
numerical label given to each device that is connected to a computer
network and uses the internet for communication. A IP address is used
for allowing connection to web addresses. This is important because it
allows for people to be identified in case of any illegal activity.
Another example of a data element is data packets. A data packet is a
breakdown of data when a file is being sent to one computer from
another and the file is too big. A tag will be attached to each individual
packet with the receiving IP and the delivering IP. This is important
because it allows for the file to be reconstructed when all packets are
delivered.
Checksum is a data element which operates as a error detection
system that can be used to represent the sum of correct digits within
any data that has been transmitted. This can be used to make sure
that no errors occur to cause the data to become corrupted
Cyclic redundancy or CRC is a system that adds code to data in order
to search and locate any errors that have appeared within the data
whilst it was being transmitted or retrieved.

Encapsulation is responsible for packing data together into a single
component. Examples of the data which are packed together are
packets, addresses and frames.
Frames are a computing form of digital data transmission where the
frame will synchronise the features consisting of bits or symbols.
This will be used for identifying the beginning and end of the
symbols or bits by the receiver.
Datagrams make it possible for packet switching networks by being
the transfer unit used. it records the instructions it has been given
to carry over a network while including the information of where it
was sent from and where it is being sent. Datagrams are very
important as they are the reason why data packets arrive at the
right location.
Sequence numbers are used as a identification that data has been
received. It works by the sequence number sending a 32 long
sequence to the device receiving data. If the sender receives the
32 number sequence from the recipient then it will not try to send
the data again.
