Elementary childhood education plays a huge role in student learning. I can contribute to this role. I want
to be a part of a childs life when they are learning new skills as well as when they begin to make connections to
previous knowledge. I have the ability to help students develop a passion for learning. It is incredible to witness
how excited a child gets when they learn something new. I also enjoy showing children what they are capable of.
There are many qualities that I feel I bring to elementary childhood education. I get to know each
individual student and build a relationship with each student. It allows me to know students strengths to enhance
learning in the classroom. I also can differentiate instruction for each student based on their needs. Every child
learns in a different way and I strive to meet each childs need. Finally, I believe students learn best from hands
on learning. I give students opportunities to learn about their environment by exploring it. This also engages
students so they want to learn more about the concepts.
As of May 2014, I am dual certified in elementary childhood education (first through sixth grade) and
special education. I have met the criteria by BOCES to become certified birth through sixth grade, which is in
progress. These degrees have given me a unique perspective on student learning. I have learned to teach students
who have a variety of learning challenges and strengths; which is what I am continuing my Masters (Inclusive
Education students with disabilities-gifted students). This is important because in every classroom setting
students are diverse in their strengths and challenges. My classroom experiences in general education and special
education has also allowed me to gain perspective on each role, which allows me to become an effective
communicator with my coworkers. This is especially important because I will be collaborating with other
teachers and attending meetings to help my students reach their full potential. Finally, my concentration in family
and child studies will help me be an effective teacher, allowing me a deeper understanding of how important
families are in their childs learning. I feel this is an important skill being able to work together with families,
enhancing their childs potential to be a successful learner.

Thank you.
