The Artistic Philosophy

Of Preston Grover
I, Preston Grover, find the following to be my own beliefs, and through
the medium of theatre and acting, I hope to be able to articulate my
thoughts on the following to those I will work with in the field of theatre
and community work, either as a peer or as an instructor:
That, though education is highly important, it is also highly
personal, and that everyone learns in a unique way that traditional
teaching sometimes is not able to reach.
That, though rationality is imperative for the human mind to
cultivate, my field of work deals in primarily cultivating individual
choice and expression of emotion that can sometimes be viewed as
irrational.
That nurturing the intellect is necessary for the betterment of the
individual, community, society, and the future.
That each person defines him/herself through their life choices, and
that it is my job to guide those I oversee through the self-defining
stages of their lives.
That the interest of those I lead are just as important as my own
personal interest, and that all lessons, productions, and activities
will be influenced not only by my own experiences and interests,
but also the collective interests of the group
That, although schools should not necessarily be the ones to lead a
society in social change, they are paramount to creating a
generation who is constantly conscious of the negatives of their
current society and working together to create a better one.
That personal values are not taught, but rather something that one
learns through observation, life experience, and rational thinking.
That, as I grow, so will this testament.
