Technology Teaching Philosophy

Abstract

My Technology Teaching Philosophy Paper is an explanation of my personal viewpoints about

the use of technology in education. It also summarizes how I have used technology in my
teaching currently and plans for future use. I have included how diversity of my students have
been included throughout my classes and will continue to adapt it throughout my teaching. It
also states how technology is an important key to our teaching.

Todays Society has brought Technology into our classrooms. We have seen trends come
and go and others stay and become part of our learning environment. Technology is here to
stay with our new generation. For example, students all carry a phone, have an I-Pad and an IPod to play music. They are usually wearing earphones to catch all the beats of the music and
are fully enhanced in Technology. Technology is outdated the moment it is purchased and
something new has hit the market. In our schools the students were always instructed to bring
the pencil and paper to the classroom to be prepared, but today it is an I-Pad. Before, they
carried a stack of books to the classroom, but today the books are downloaded on the I-Pad.
Technology has become part of the classroom with Smart Boards, Tablets and other forms of
Technology. We see Technology in every classroom from Pre-School through Senior High
motivating our students to learn with the world at their fingertips. The use of Technology in
our classrooms is preparing our students across the world. In addition to preparing children for
the future, technology can enhance significantly the learning and social possibilities in the
classroom (Roopnarine & Johnson, 2013).
I feel Technology has a place in every classroom. As a certified teacher and as a paraprofessional in our school, I have had the opportunity to use it regularly in various classrooms.
Integrating Technology into the classroom is not as simple task but an on-going helpful tool

used throughout the classroom in various subject areas. It is just not the computer sitting over
in the corner, but communication to the future. We have gone from computers to I-Pads and
Tablets to various Technology Devices all being updated at a fast pace.
In the Kindergarten Room, I help with computer time looking at underwater sea creatures to
exploring through space. We can interact with the students with activities about what they saw
and the feelings they experienced. Various activities could include picture books from printed
materials off the computer and adding their own drawings to complete their stories of their
journeys, of which they later shared with their class. We used the World Web and Nickelodeon
to select out topics for our projects. Technology is used in the classroom with Smart Boards
and I-Pads to progress their learning skills.
In the 5th Grade Room, we are using the I-Pads to create Pic Collages of various topics from
the U.S. Presidents to the State Searches. The students know how to search the web and
download the materials they need to create their presentation, by using a Smart Board.
The 8th Graders are using I-Pads for Science to take notes in Schoology and Notability and
submitting them to their instructor. Diversity proved to increase the difficulty but with handson instruction helping to eliminate the problems. A weekly outline is used with the chapters,
which requires the students to submit, expanding their knowledge with using Technology.

Many of our classrooms today have students from diverse backgrounds. Culture diversity
brings the use of interpreters into our classroom. We have some Spanish/English Learners in a
variety of our classes. The use of Technology has help to incorporate many lessons into the
Spanish Language. The use of both languages have helped the English speaking students to
learn Spanish and improve the communication skills of all students. We have been able to
communicate through Technology to the families with assignments translated into both
languages and also by implementing the web over various learning sites (Hudson & Fradd,
1990).
Our diverse backgrounds are not only culture based but also helping children with special
needs physically, academically and socially. In my Special Education Classes, we use voice
recognition programs with many of our reading and math programs, enabling the students to
hear the passages and problems to create better comprehension skills. These also are
translated in various languages and reading levels with Talking Text with Kid Pic and
Kidspiration (West Ed, 2013).
Our school has also implemented a reading program through the Scholastic and Accelerated
Reader Programs. Students have to read books to obtain points to help their English Grades.
After reading the books, they take tests on comprehension and by passing they receive points,
which in turn, helps their English Grade. A variety of books can be read in different subject

Technology Teaching Philosophy

areas, languages and reading levels. Technology has made it possible for our diverse learners
to be part of the program.
I am using the I-Pads and computer programs throughout the Special Education Classes for
educational games and learning programs with various children. We use headphones, when
necessary, for better comprehension throughout the classes. The classes watch a variety of
shows over the Smart Boards in different languages for our culture diverse students such as
Dora, in Spanish for our Preschool Students. Our students who need hearing devices, use
special devices enabling the sound to travel at different levels, sign language and the availability
of text on the screen, is also used. We want each of our students to enjoy learning and all
having the same opportunity.
Today our classrooms all have Smart Boards, from the Preschool Classroom to the Senior
High Classrooms. Through Technology our students are learning Fairy Tales and Nursery
Rhymes in the Preschool Classroom to Physics and Calculus in the Senior High Classrooms. We
have also implemented the use of Distant Learning Classes to the World Web throughout the
school.
I have been interested in researching programs, remembering internet safety, for the
students to create their own blog or wiki. New projects could even include having podcasts and
developing and sharing new ideas with researching new material using the Technology available
today (TeachHub.com, 2014).

Summary
The importance of Technology throughout the school systems can be seen in every aspect of
the students learning process. The 5 major benefits mentioned throughout research include:
1) future oriented education, 2) making learning interesting, 3) improving learning skills, 4)
increase collaboration, and 5) reduces weight and stress of carrying the heavy loads of books
from classroom to classroom. Integrating Technology into our curriculum today is important
for a variety of reasons (Edutopia.org, 2013).
Our research has shown us the 5 common uses of Technology in the classroom including: 1)
websites and social media, 2) reading level structure, 3) computer based standardized testing,
4) Smart Boards, and 5) I-Pads and Lap Tops. Today, other Technology Systems are being
developed and are being tried and will be showing up in our classrooms (Teacherthought.com).
Technology is a tool we will be using throughout our schools. It will be found in all of our
classrooms and special education classes used by our staff and students. It will continue to help
with our diversity of students in our schools global consistency. Technology is here to stay.
