Critical Inquiry Question: What elements of a societys worldview might lead to a
desire to create an empire?

8.3.4 assess, critically, how the Aztecs were affected by the Spanish worldview by
exploring and reflecting upon the following questions and issues:
-What key elements of Spains worldview led to the desire to expand the Spanish empire?

Adaptations:
Students who struggle with reading and writing will be expected to write 3-5 sentences
on this topic. They will receive extra help during class time.

Lesson Procedure:

substitute teacher could teach the lesson.)

Hold a class discussion about the corners activity that happened the day before
(How did students respond to the statement, Ferdinand and Isabellas actions
during the Spanish Requisition were justified. Why did they respond that way?)
(10 minutes)
After a brief class discussion, students will write a speech as either Ferdinand or
Isabella in which they defend their actions to support their religious worldviews,
or as a Muslim/ Jewish person and oppose their actions.
Go over expectations and rubric for the assignment.
Students will have the class period to work on this. It is due on Thursday March
26, 2015.
