Unit Goals and Objectives:

Students will be able to read and analyze parts of a poem to formulate their own opinion on the author's message.

Students will analyze different stanzas within a poem and relate them to each other as a whole.

Students will interpret words and phrases in a poem as a way to change the tone of the piece.

Unit Summary:
This is a Digital Unit on Poetry. In this unit we will be covering the different forms of poetry, determining the central idea of the author and comparing
poetry with its filmed media. We will be covering Shakespearean sonnet to Narrative and Free Verse poems. You will do much more than read about poetry.
You will read, understand and formulate poetry.

Process
A discussion about poetry and why it exist. A
question will come up for students on their own
view of poetry. Students will be inform of a
variety of poetic styles and their origins. Each
student will create their own poetry using 2
different styles.
Purpose
At the end of this course, students will be able to
name a variety of different types of poetry and
recreate their own.

Process
As the discussion continues the student will learn
about the rulings for each style. They will read
famous poetry in class and at this point they will
split into smaller groups and will dissect as much
as they can about the poetry and will speak it out
loud, while another group can interrupt if they
feel that their own analysis is better. Opening up
the discussion into more of a debate with the
class. A quiz will be given on the difference
styles of poetry and a homework assignment will
be given on what is your favorite piece of poetry
and why.
Purpose
At the end of the course, the students will be able
to understand the rulings of the different variety
of poetry and give a critical analysis on poetry.

Process
Student will continue on learning about poetry
through reading famous poems. As we read
through the poems the instructor will ask
questions on each line or stanza that will help
students analyze the piece of poetry carefully.
The instructor will eventually go over the rubric
for their essay on a specific poem. The essay will
encourage students to review their lesson in
order to earn a high grade.
Purpose
At the end of the course, the student will be able
to use all of their prior knowledge to create their
own critical analysis on a piece of poem and give
a valid argument to help persuade the reader.

Lesson Activities:
Students will be reading and learning about the different variety of
poetry from the teacher. Small activities will be conducted to insure
proper use of the variety of poetry. At the end of the lesson a quiz will
be conducted to ensure adequate knowledge in poetry.

Lesson Activities:
The students will do a web exercise in a group of 3 to 4 using Edgar
Allan Poe as a reference. They will incorporate his poetry with his life
and give examples of daily media on how his work has influence pop
culture today.

Lesson Activities:
Students will deconstruct the different types of poetry into their basic
construct, and then analyze each part of the poem and explain them
on the graph. Eventually students will give their own critical analysis
on specific poetry to the class while class mates are able to add in
their own opinions.
